Documentation on a social mail art project in support of the Cuereghem area in Anderlecht, Brussels. A park was built on a wasteland right above the underground river Zenne. Snake murals by local kids and artists surrounded the park. A promised catalogue never saw the light, so that was a lesson in cooperation with local authorities. Nevertheless the snake project became one of the best mail art projects I developed, so no regrets !!! Non, je ne regrette rien (dixit Edith Piaf)

A SNAKE I MADE FOR SCHOOL IN 1970 OR 1971 (Anja R.)
Anja is the child form of Tatjana Neuber. Frankly, I am jealous of this collage. Oh the magic of us as children and educatuion destroys all this potential reservoir of true and honest creativity. Pink Floyd were visionary or understood the process (we don't need no education! dixit the wall).
I am glad the snake murals surrounding the park start with the work of the local children, as it should be, and that we grown up artists continue what they have started. I remember a scene when we did the murals. One of the grown up artists was doing his part of the mural and some of the local children threw rocks at him. He was their teacher and a convinced communist. We had to talk with the kids to calm them down and stop their Palestinian inspired protest! The teacher was the ennemy and then we wonder why our school system fails?!
